When people think of dental jobs images of dentists and dental hygienists come to mind. What they do not realize is that dental offices need administrative staff in order to operate efficiently. Every dental office should have a receptionist to answer phone calls, greet customers and make appointments.

Receptionists in the dental field do not need any prior experience or qualifications. This is a basic administrative role that can be filled by anybody with a little common sense and good customer service skills. Job seekers should note that many people are uncomfortable with the idea of going to the dentist. This often leads to unhappy customers and having to deal with tense situations.
As the role can be performed by inexperienced staff, job seekers should not expect a high salary. Most dental receptionists start off on minimum wage. While they will get pay raises every year, they will not be substantial. It is also worthwhile noting that the only role receptionists can get promoted to is that of practice manager. However it will take many years to qualify for this promotion.
This is essentially a job for young people who want to gain work experience. It is also suitable for those who have very little work experience or have just entered the workforce after a long break. This role should be looked at as a stepping stone to a better role and not as a long term career option. The reality is that dental receptionists will be able to get higher paid jobs after they have gained a year or two of experience.
