Getting a job as a dental assistant is not that difficult. Applicants do not need to have any prior experience or training to get into this role. Generally most dental practices will be willing to hire high school graduates and train them up. That being said, applicants who have some sort of certification will be able to command a higher salary.

The best way to get a dental assistant position is to contact several dental offices. Job seekers should remember that dentists are often small businesses. This means that they will rarely have job openings. When they do they will not have the resources to post expensive advertisements and interview dozens of candidates. Generally they will advertise in the local paper, interview two or three applicants and make a decision. As dental jobs are not easy to come by, job seekers will need to be proactive in their search.
Job seekers should go through the yellow pages and look for dental practices. Once they have the contact details of a dentist they should call them and ask to speak to the practice manager. This is the person who is in charge of hiring staff. If there are no current vacancies at the practice, the job seeker should ask if they can forward their resume for future vacancies. Some companies do not advertise vacant positions as they fill them with people they already have on file. Job applicants should also check job websites, newspapers and public notice boards for job leads on a daily basis.
